BALTIMORE - The top-ranked Salisbury University
field hockey team defeated Johns Hopkins University with a 3-0
shutout of the Blue Jays under the lights Wednesday night at
Homewood Field.
SU (6-0) was led offensively by senior Megan Powell's four-point
game (one goal, two assists) as she scored her team leading 9th
goal of the season at the 29th minute of the first half to give the
Gulls a 1-0 lead.
A minute later, freshman Lauren Correll scored the first of her
two goals on the night off a Powell assist. The Sea Gulls led 2-0
at halftime.
Correll's second mark came during at the 47th minute when her
shot slid under JHU goalie Dayna Eng (seven saves). Powell assisted
on the goal to increase her points total to 23 through six games.
The Sea Gulls held an 18-11 edge in shots over the Blue Jays
(1-3) as SU goalie Maria Ramoundos made four saves to preserve the
shutout. JHU took four more corners (12-8) then the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury extends its winning streak to 16 games dating back to
October 9, 2005.
The Sea Gulls will next play Frostburg State University on
Saturday afternoon on the road.
