SALISBURY, Md. - The top-ranked Salisbury
University field hockey team returned home and took care of
business against McDaniel College as the Sea Gulls posted its'
third straight shutout with a 5-0 victory.
Salisbury (8-0) now has six shutouts for the 2006 campaign as
the Sea Gulls have only allowed three goals in 560 minutes of play
thus far this season. The victory extends Salisbury's win streak to
18-straight games since October 9, 2005.
The three-time defending NCAA Division III national champions
scored four second half goals, highlighted by two great assists by
senior Abby Rowe, to guarantee the win.
Freshman Lauren Correll scored the game's first
two goals, which increased her goal total to six for the season, as
the Gulls led 2-0.
Senior Megan Powell (one goal, one assist)
scored her team leading 12th goal of the season off a penalty
corner, assisted by Rowe, at the 49th minute.
Freshman Beverly Beladino (1g, 1a) and junior
Danielle Twilley scored their second goals of the
season to close out the game.
Salisbury outshot the Green Terror, 23-10, and took five more
corners, 13-8. SU goalie Maria Ramoundos
made three saves in goal to preserve the shutout while Erika
Wawzyanick made seven saves for McDaniel (3-4).
The Sea Gulls will host York College at 1 p.m., Saturday,
September 23 in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
