SALISBURY, Md. - The top-seeded Salisbury
University women's soccer team advanced to the Capital Athletic
Conference semifinals with a 3-0 win over No. 8 seed Marymount
(Va.) University on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (13-2-1) scored all three of their goals in the first
half as four seniors registered points for the maroon and gold.
Sara Schmidt netted the first goal of the game in
the 18th minute as she scored from 15 yards out off an assist by
Kate Weaver.
SU struck again in the in 30th minute as Erin
Casey took a rebound off the post and cashed in on her
seventh goal of the year while Robyn Bishop put
the Sea Gulls up 3-0 in the 34th minute off of one of Salisbury's
eight corner kicks.
Marymount (6-10-1) had its opportunities to score in the second
half as it put seven of its nine shots on goal. The Saints had 15
shots for the game to Salisbury's 20.
Junior goalies Gena Goodson and Kristin
Greene split time in net as Goodson recorded four saves
and improved her record to 9-2-1 as a starter while Greene made a
game-high seven saves in the second half.
The Saints' Beth Dickey (0-1) started in goal and made five saves
in the loss while Lauren Harris played the second half and made two
saves.
The Sea Gulls improve their record to 19-0 all-time against
Marymount.
Salisbury will face the winner of No. 5 seed Wesley College and No.
4 seed St. Mary's (Md.) College on Wednesday, October 31, at the SU
Soccer Complex. The game time is yet to be determined.
