Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 23 Salisbury
University women's soccer team dropped its first game of the season
to Capital Athletic Conference foe University of Mary Washington,
2-1, Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 125.
The Sea Gulls (8-1-1, 4-1 CAC) scored the first goal of the game
as senior Robyn Bishop netted her sixth goal of
the season on a direct kick just four minutes into the match.
It didn't take long for the Eagles (7-3-2, 4-1-1 CAC) to get the
equalizer as Hannah Pearson headed in an Alia Lanewala corner kick
at the seven minute mark to tie the score at 1-1.
UMW's Allison DiPippa scored with less then four minutes left in
the first half to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at the half.
Each team had one corner kick in the first half and Mary
Washington held the advantage in shots, 6-5.
In the second half, the maroon and gold had several chances to
tie the score but UMW goalie Laura McCarthy (6-2-2) made four of
her five saves in the game to preserve the win. Salisbury goalie
Gena Goodson (4-1-1) made five saves in the loss.
The Sea Gulls managed only 10 shots in the game as Mary
Washington got off 14 shots.
Salisbury returns to action on Tuesday, October 9, as they
travel to Arlington, Va., to face CAC member Marymount (Va.) at 4
p.m.
