SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 26 Salisbury
University baseball team completed a two-game sweep of No. 10
Montclair State University, 14-1, to extend its win streak to 10
games this afternoon at Sea Gull Field.
Salisbury (10-1) got into a jam early in the first inning as they
gave up four straight singles but managed to get out of the inning
only down one due to some heads-up defensive assists on the bases.
The Sea Gulls answered in the bottom half with two runs of their
own with the go-ahead score coming off the bat of a Mike
Celenza groundout. SU continued to pour it on as they
scored 11 runs in the next three innings. Reigning CAC Player of
the Week Andrew Jensen remained hot as he went
5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. The senior right fielder is now
23-for-42 (.548), with 19 runs scored, 17 RBI, nine walks and a
.738 slugging percentage on the season.
Senior Bryan Brainer (3-1) got the win on the
mound for Salisbury as he went five innings, gave up one run and
struck out five. He now leads the team with 21 strikeouts on the
year.
The SU offense was driven by Hunter Wessells,
Randy Boyle, Mark Bostwick and
Brian Camper who all added at least two hits and
one run on the day.
The Gulls continued to run wild on the base paths as they stole
four more bags today on four attempts and extended their season
total to a perfect 25-of-25. Bostwick leads the team with seven
steals.
Montclair State (0-2) received a three-hit day from catcher Andrew
Vicaro whose battery mate, Kevin Dalton (0-1), earned the loss as
he went three innings and gave up eight runs.
Salisbury is a perfect 8-0 at home on the season and will be
back in action when they travel to New Jersey on Tuesday, March 6
to meet up with fourth-ranked The College of New Jersey.
