SALISBURY, Md. - Sophomore Jessica
Chmielewski had her best game of the season for the No. 2
Salisbury University women's lacrosse team here Thursday as she
scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of the game to lead the
Sea Gulls to a 20-7 Capital Athletic Conference win over St. Mary's
(Md.) College.
Chmielewski scored the game's first goal a minute in a half in
and scored back-to-back goals, her third and fourth of the game,
two minutes apart. She added an assist right before the half where
the Sea Gulls led 10-5. Chmielewski's five-point game is her
highest point output this season.
Salisbury (12-1, 5-0 CAC) outshot St. Mary's (Md.) 51-16 and
scooped up 29 groundballs. The Sea Gulls also caused 13 of the 30
Seahawk (7-6, 3-2 CAC) turnovers.
Junior Sue Ackermann continued to add to her
national leading numbers as she scored three goals and added three
assists. She now has 30 goals, 42 assists and 72 points for the
season.
SU had 10 different goal scorers in the game including five
players who scored two or more. In addition to Ackermann, seniors
Stephanie Shores (three goals, one assist) and
Natalie Degele scored three goals apiece. Junior
midfielder Jessica Liston was the other multi-goal
scorer with two.
St. Mary's (Md.) was led by sophomore Lauren Carrier who scored
three goals to increase her goal total for the season to 50.
Freshman goalie Natalie Pappas (two saves)
played one half to earn the win for SU and increase her record to
8-1. SMC senior goalie Melissa Puzak made 13 saves in the loss.
The Sea Gulls now turn their attention to Saturday's (April 14)
1 p.m. home showdown with arch-nemesis The College of New Jersey,
ranked No. 5 in the country.
