ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The top-ranked Salisbury
University men's lacrosse team wrapped up its Capital Athletic
Conference regular-season schedule with a 13-6 road victory against
St. Mary's College before 347 on Saturday.
Salisbury (15-0, 8-0 CAC) will be the top-seed in next week's
CAC tournament where the Sea Gulls have won 12 straight conference
tournaments since joining the CAC in 1995. Salisbury will open up
the CAC tournament on Tuesday, April 17 when they host Catholic
University. The game time for this contest has not been determined.
The SU win marks a career milestone for Sea Gull coach
Jim Berkman, the winningest men's lacrosse coach
in NCAA history (all divisions), as he earned his 300th career win
in 20 years. Berkman's record at Salisbury is 291-30 (.906) in 19
seasons. His total career record is now 300-34 (.898).
Juniors Matt Hickman (five goals, one assist)
and Greg Titus (four goals, one assist) posted
another fabulous game as the Sea Gull 1-2 punch combined for nine
goals and two assists. Senior Eric Bishop dished
out a game-high five assists and scored two goals. Sophomore
Kylor Berkman (one goal, one assist) and junior
Michael Lennon added a goal apiece.
The Sea Gulls led 7-3 at the half in a game they never trailed.
SU outshot SMC 25-11 in the first half and 47-30 for the game. The
Gulls were perfect on clears (24-of-24) and won 13-of-23 faceoffs.
SU senior goalie Max Zarchin made 13 saves for the maroon and gold.
St. Mary's (Md.) goalie Rich Barr made a game-high 21 saves in
the loss. Ryan Alexander (two goals, two assists) and Josh
Hostetler were the only multi-goal scorers for the Seahawks (9-5,
5-3 CAC).
