Salisbury punches ticket to the postseason with another CAC crown

SALISBURY, Md. - The top-ranked and undefeated Salisbury University men's lacrosse team officially punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday afternoon as the Sea Gulls won its 13th consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championship. Salisbury (18-0) defeated St. Mary's (Md.) College 17-5 before a crowd of 518 at Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls will make their 19th consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament, a record 25th appearance in the Division III tournament.

SU scored the game's first five goals as the maroon and gold led 5-1 after on quarter and 6-2 at the half. In the second half, Salisbury outscored St. Mary's 11-3.

Senior Eric Bishop led all-scorers with five goals while junior Matt Hickman scored four to increase his season total to 63 goals. Sophomore Kylor Berkman added two goals and two assists in the win.

Salisbury outshot St. Mary's 49-23, scooped up 48 ground balls and won 15-of-25 faceoffs en route to another CAC title. SU has won every single CAC championship since joining the conference in 1995.

St. Mary's goalie Rich Barr made 15 saves in between the pipes for the Seahawks.

Salisbury will conclude its regular-season this Saturday, April 28, under the lights at Washington (Md.) College in Chestertown, Md. at 7 p.m. The Charles B. Clark Cup will be on the line for the two Eastern Shore rivals.
