SALISBURY, Md. - The top-seeded and No. 2
Salisbury University women's lacrosse team rolled to a 24-2 win
over eighth-seeded Marymount (Va.) University in the first round of
the Capital Athletic Conference tournament Sunday afternoon at Sea
Gull Field.
The Sea Gulls (16-1) had 16 different goal scorers led by the
attack combo of seniors Natalie Degele (three
goals and two assists) and Stephanie Shores, who
each scored a game-high three goals.
SU controlled the game in the first half as it scored 18 goals
off 34 shots. The Gulls scored the game's first five goals before
the Saints (1-12) received a free position goal from freshman Sara
Horne to cut the lead to 5-1.
Salisbury rounded out the first half on a 13-goal run to go into
the half up 18-1.
The Sea Gulls scored the first goal of the second half before
Marymount cashed in on its second free position of the game, this
time by Marie Montgomery.
SU netted the final five goals of the game en route to the
22-goal win.
MMU goalie Angela Saunders made 13 saves in the loss while
freshman net-minder Natalie Pappas picked up her
12th win of the season.
The Sea Gulls return to the field on Tuesday, April 24 as they
host fourth-seeded Goucher in the semifinals of the CAC tournament
at 4 pm. Salisbury defeated Goucher 23-9 on April 20.
