SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 9 Salisbury University
baseball team swept Villa Julie College in a Monday afternoon
doubleheader at Sea Gull Field. Salisbury won the two games by a
combined score of 17-2. SU took the first game 4-1 and followed
with a 13-2 victory.
Senior Tom Howell (2-0) pitched a seven-inning
complete game in the first game of the doubleheader. Howell allowed
one unearned run, two hits and issued three walks. He struck out
four in the seven inning game.
Salisbury got on the board with two runs in the first and second
innings. Junior Justin Armiger (2-for-3) connected
on a solo home run in the first inning. In the next inning,
shortstop Brian Camper hit his second home run of
the season, a two-run shot, to right field. In addition to Armiger,
senior Colin Kraus and freshmen Hunter
Wessells and Mike Celenza had two hits in
the victory. SU tallied 11 total hits in the first game.
In the second game, Salisbury scored seven runs in the first
three innings, highlighted by four in the second. Junior
Mark Bostwick slammed a solo home run in the third
inning, his third of the season. Salisbury added six insurance runs
in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Senior Dan Oleynik (6-2) went five innings to
win his sixth win of the season. Oleynik gave up one run, six hits
and struck out one. Sophomore pitcher Jeff Feigl
and senior Matt Peterson each pitched an inning of
relief to close out the game for the Gulls.
At the plate, Kraus went 4-for-4, knocked in four runs and
scored three times to lead the Sea Gulls. Senior Andrew
Jensen went 3-for-5, scored once and plated two runners to
increase his team lead in RBIs to 49. SU now has a seven-game
winning streak.
Salisbury will face No. 16 Johns Hopkins University tomorrow
(May 1) at 3:30 p.m.
