LYNCHBURG, Va. - For two quarters the No. 6
Lynchburg Hornets played dead even with the top-ranked Salisbury
University men's lacrosse team. It was the other two quarters that
were dominated by the Sea Gulls (13-0) who outscored the Hornets
10-0 to secure a 15-5 road victory on Saturday before 321 on the
road.
Lynchburg (8-2) did something no other team could do against
Salisbury this season; make them trail after one quarter of play.
The Hornets scored the game's first three goals and even led 4-1
with 1:44 left in the opening quarter. Salisbury netted the next 10
goals to put the game solely in its favor as the Gulls outscored
the Hornets 14-1 for the final 46 minutes of the game.
The Sea Gulls shutout the Hornets in the second quarter (6-0)
and fourth quarter (4-0) to earn their 60th straight regular-season
game victory. SU holds a 13-1 series advantage against Lynchburg.
Salisbury junior Greg Titus continued his
torrent streak of goals by leading all-scorers with four in the
game. For the season, Titus has a team-high 46 goals and 57 points.
Senior Brett Yoder scored two goals and passed out
a game-high four assists in the win. Sophomore Kylor
Berkman had three goals and one assist, senior
Eric Bishop and Matt Hickman
scored twice while seniors Matt Dasinger and
Luis Gonzalez added a goal each for the maroon and
gold.
SU senior faceoff specialist Ryan DeRose
dominated at 'x' as he won 16-of-17 faceoffs for the Gulls, who won
all but three for the game (21-of-24).
Senior goalie Max Zarchin made eight saves in
between the pipes for the Sea Gulls while Lynchburg goalie Garrett
Curran faced 41 SU shots and made 14 saves. LC attackman Austin
Jeter led all Hornets with two goals.
Lynchburg is one of two teams that have been able to hand
Salisbury a loss in the past five seasons. SU is 92-2 in five
seasons of play and 82-1 since a 13-12 loss to the Hornets on April
10, 2003.
The Sea Gulls have faced three ranked teams, in the top six in
the country at the time, this season and outscored those teams
53-15.
Salisbury will next host No. 16 Villa Julie College at 4 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 11. First-place in the Capital Athletic Conference
will be on the line as both teams are undefeated in conference
play.
