WESTMINSTER, Md. - The No. 5 Salisbury
University field hockey team increased its winning streak to six
straight on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout over McDaniel
College in a non-conference in-state game.
Salisbury (7-1) scored six minutes into the game on an
unassisted goal by sophomore forward Lauren
Correll, who knocked the ball in off a rebound in front of
the Green Terror goal. Correll is now tied for the team lead in
goals scored with six for the season.
The Sea Gulls added one more goal before the half in the 31st
minute when senior Lauren Dietz scored an
unassisted goal, her first of the season, to send the maroon and
gold into the half up 2-0.
Senior goalie Maria Ramoundos (7-0) played all
70 minutes for Salisbury as she faced only three shots from
McDaniel to earn her second shutout of the season and stay
undefeated in the cage.
Salisbury controlled the edge in shots, 11-3, and penalty
corners, 11-4, as McDaniel goalie Erika Wawzyanick made four saves
in the loss.
The Gulls return to action on Saturday, September 22, when they
travel to York, Pa., to face the Spartans in a 1 p.m. Capital
Athletic Conference game.
