YORK, Pa.- The No. 5 ranked Salisbury
University field hockey team earned its second Capital Athletic
Conference win this season as well as its seventh straight victory
overall with a 6-1 rout against York (Pa.) College on the
road Saturday afternoon.
Salisbury (8-1, 2-0 CAC) was led by forwards Lauren
Correll and Lauren Dietz. Correll, a
sophomore, scored back-to-back goals just before the 10 minute mark
to put the maroon and gold up 2-0. Correll now leads the team with
eight goals. Dietz, a senior, added two goals for the Sea Gulls off
the bench. Freshman Kandice Hancock added the only
Sea Gull assist.
Senior Danielle Twilley recorded a penalty shot
goal in the 11th minute, her third penalty shot goal of the year,
and now has a team-high 18 points (seven goals, four assists) this
season. Salisbury led 4-0 at the half.
The second half was much of the same for SU as Dietz scored three
minutes into the half followed by freshman Abby
Tedford, who scored her second goal of the year, in the
41st minute.
SU goalie Maria Ramoundos (49 minutes) remained
perfect on the year as the senior improved her record to 8-0.
Freshman Claire Davey-Karlson played the final 21
minutes in the cage as she allowed one goal on four Spartan
shots.
YCP (3-7, 1-2 CAC) dropped its third straight game as backstop
Claire Rekitzke (11 saves) suffered the loss as she allowed all six
SU goals. The lone Spartan goal was scored by Laurel Sterner
assisted by Jami Hassier in the 56th minute.
SU outshot the YCP 34-5 and took 10 penalty corners compared to
three for York. The Gulls have beaten the Spartans 19 times in 20
meetings.
Salisbury will now host No. 10 Rowan University at 5 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 25, at Sea Gull Stadium.
