Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md.- The Salisbury University
men's soccer team extended its consecutive shutout to three games
(290 minutes) with a 1-0 road victory against Eastern Shore rival
Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday night.
Salisbury (2-0-1) broke through the scoreless 0-0 game in the
52nd minute with a goal off the foot of freshman Mike
Napolitano by way of a Nick Malone
assist. Napolitano's game-winner was the first goal of his
collegiate career. The Ellicott City, Md., native also made his
first start of the season tonight as well.
SU goalie Matt Blue (2-0-1) recorded his third
straight shutout and saved two WC shots in the game. The senior has
eight saves on the year and now has gone 290 minutes between the
pipes without giving up a goal.
The Sea Gulls controlled the match as they took nine corner
kicks (seven in the second half) compared to the two by the
Shoremen. Salisbury also attempted 24 shots as they placed 15 on
goal.
Washington (1-2) dropped its second consecutive 1-0 game as
goalie Marc Petrucci (14 saves) picked up the loss.
The maroon and gold will head south this weekend for Raleigh,
N.C., to participate in the Esprit D-III Classic. Salisbury will
play Guilford on Saturday and then meet up with Lynchburg on
Sunday. SU finished a perfect 2-0 last season in the same
tournament.
