Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 6 Salisbury University
field hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season with
a 4-1 win over Denison in the tournament opener of the 2007
Salisbury University Invitational Saturday morning in front of a
crowd of 125.
The Sea Gulls (2-1) controlled the pace of the entire game as they
outshot the Big Red 25-2 and held the advantage in penalty corners,
17-3.
Salisbury scored the game's first goal off a penalty corner as
Michelle Rowe found Kandice
Hancock just 10 and half minutes into the contest.
Denison's Read Powell answered the Salisbury scoring strike less
than two minutes later as she cashed in on a penalty stroke to knot
the score at 1-1.
Beverly Beladino rounded out the scoring for the
Gulls in the first frame as she got her stick on a Katy
Lamboni cross to give SU a 2-1 lead at the
intermission.
The Gulls added insurance in the second half as Beladino scored her
second goal of the game off an assist from Lauren
Correll. Senior Danielle Twilley netted
her team-high third goal of the season off a corner from Rowe to
give SU the 4-1 victory.
Denison (1-1) goalie Halle Minshall made a game-high seven saves in
the losing effort as Maria Ramoundos picked up her
second win of the season.
Salisbury returns to the field at 3 p.m. today as they take on SUNY
Brockport in Game 3 of the SU Field Hockey Invitational.
Note: Eastern Mennonite and SUNY Brockport play at
10:30 a.m. and Denison returns to action at 4:45 p.m. as they take
on EMU.
