Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 10
Salisbury University field hockey team completed its Capital
Athletic Conference regular-season schedule Saturday afternoon at
Sea Gull Stadium with a 4-1 victory over University of Mary
Washington.
The win secures the top seed for the Sea Gulls in the upcoming 2008
CAC tournament. Salisbury has won the last 13 consecutive CAC
championships since 1995.
Salisbury (12-3, 6-0 CAC) trailed early as the Gulls allowed Eagle
forward Sarah Pierson to score on a breakaway goal assisted by Emma
Jones, just four minutes into the game. The Sea Gull defense
settled down and held UMW to three shots on the day. The Eagles'
goal marked just the second goal allowed by SU goalie Anna
Cooke (one save) in CAC play this season.
The four SU scores came from different Sea Gulls as freshmen
Tara McGovern and Caitlin Walker
recorded one goal and one assist each while juniors
Michelle Rowe and Beverly
Beladino finished the game with one goal apiece.
SU placed 12 shots on goal in the contest and forced UMW goalie
Chrissy Bowdren to make six tough saves while the Sea
Gulls kept the Eagle defense on their
heels with 17 penalty corner opportunities.
The Gulls will close out their regular-season schedule at home
on Wednesday, October 29, at 6 p.m. against Catholic University of
America.
