Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University
men's soccer team closed out its regular-season schedule on a rainy
Saturday afternoon with a key Capital Athletic Conference showdown
with University of Mary Washington. The two teams played two
overtime periods but in the end the final score remained scoreless
at 0-0.
This is the third tie for the Sea Gulls and the first against a
CAC team this season. The three ties are the most by a Sea Gull
team since the 2004 season.
The tie gives Mary Washington (8-4-3, 4-1-2 CAC) the second seed
in the upcoming CAC tournament while Salisbury (12-3-3, 5-2-1 CAC)
will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed. Both teams trail
undefeated and nationally ranked York (Pa.) College. Salisbury is
the defending CAC champions.

Rubel helped the maroon and gold earn their 10th shutout
of the season. Sea Gull junior goalie Greg
Wellinghoff made two saves in 110 minutes played in the
net.
The SU offense was paced by junior midfielder Kyle
Sterling who tallied three shots, two on goal, in the
stalemate. Fellow junior midfielder Chas Gray and
sophomore forward Mike Napolitano each had two
shots apiece
Mary Washington's Bram Sims had two shots, one on goal, for the
Eagles while goalie Emmett Rutkowski made four saves.
Salisbury and Mary Washington both had nine shots apiece but the
Sea Gulls had a 3-2 edge in shots during the overtime periods. SU
held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. SU will now prepare for the
upcoming CAC tournament which begins on November 2.
