SALISBURY, Md. - It was a strong start to the
Salisbury University women's tennis Capital Athletic Conference
schedule as the Sea Gulls defeated St. Mary's (Md.) College 9-0 on
Sunday afternoon at the SU outdoor courts before a crowd of 108.
This was the first time the Sea Gulls (2-2, 1-0 CAC) have
competed outdoors at home this season as cold weather has kept
Salisbury inside thus far. This was also Salisbury's third match in
as many days.
Junior Anna Marie Kable defeated Sarah Weisse
6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. The Seahawks (2-5, 0-1 CAC) had their
best chance for a point in No. 2 singles as Michelle
Compton only lost 6-1, 6-3 to Kelly Fahrner.
Sophomore Rachel Iosue, junior Robyn
Wendell and sophomore Kristen King won
6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Junior Hannah
Parsons defeated Erin Marzoli 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles
for the Sea Gulls.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Kable/Iosue defeated
Weisse/Compton, 8-6. Salisbury's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams of
Parsons/Wendell and Fahrner/King, respectively, won 8-0 over the
Seahawks.
Salisbury will next host Bridgewater (Va.) College on Saturday,
March 8, at 2 p.m.
