Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 17 Salisbury
University men's soccer team completed its season opening home
stand with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.)
College on Wednesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.
Salisbury (3-0-0) fired off 25 shots in the game, 12 on goal, and
were equally as dominant on defense as Washington took just
three shots, two of which reached the goalkeeper. Junior
goalie Greg Wellinghoff (two saves) recorded his
second straight shutout this season.
Freshman Sam Forline scored his first
collegiate goal in the 37th minute of the match as he took a pass
from junior Benjamin Reed from across the left
side of the box. Forline wasn't done yet. With 22 minutes left
to play in the second half the forward scored his second goal of
his career. Forline fired home a shot off a rebound that hit
Washington (1-1-0) goalie James Bedrock (nine saves).
Sea Gull junior Kyle Sterling scored the game's
first goal, 15 minutes in, after he received an assist from
senior Scott Sparrow.
The maroon and gold will be on the road for its next three
contests, first traveling to Lynchburg, Va., for the Shellenberger
Classic this weekend (September 6-7). The undefeated Gulls
will take on Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday at 4:30
p.m.
