SALISBURY, Md. - On a night
when the Salisbury University volleyball team celebrated a trio of
individual player accomplishments, coach Margie
Knight's 300th career victory and its
Dig Pink rally, the Sea Gulls also took control of the Capital
Athletic Conference's top spot in the standings with a four-set win
against Gallaudet University. Salisbury (20-4, 5-0 CAC) took the
match 25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18 in front of a crowd of 445.
The milestones celebrated before the match were not the only
ones of the evening. Posting her third 30-dig match of the season,
senior libero Gabby Long (Bel Air,
Md.) finished with 32 on the night, allowing her to
take over the top spot in program history for career digs. She has
now registered 2,219 digs in her four-year career.
After falling behind the Bison (16-9, 3-2 CAC) 7-2 in the
fourth set, Salisbury avoided a fifth by rattling off a 14-4 run to
take a 16-11 lead. The Sea Gulls went on to finish off the game
25-18 and end the match.
The Sea Gull offense was led by senior outside hitter Rachel Downes
(Salisbury, Md.), who had 16 kills. Senior middle
hitter Nicole Massarelli
(Clarksville, Md.), freshman right side hitter
Jenna Shay
(Dunkirk, Md.) and junior outside hitter Kelly Williams
(Laurel, Md.) all pitched in with six kills each.
Freshman setter Carley Todd (Centerport,
N.Y.) finished with 21 assists while sophomore Lindsey
Saltzman (Penfield, N.Y.) added 13.
With Tuesday's win, Salisbury increases its winning streak
against CAC opponents to 21 matches. Salisbury will look to keep
its CAC streak going Thursday, Oct. 15, when it hosts Hood College.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
