Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
soccer team clinched the top seed and home-field advantage in the
Capital Athletic Conference tournament with its 1-0 win over CAC
opponent University of Mary Washington on Saturday at the SU Soccer
Complex. Saturday's game was also the final regular season game for
the Salisbury seniors.
Salisbury (14-2-1, 7-0-1 CAC) dominated Mary Washington the
entire game, outshooting the Eagles 25-9 in the match. The maroon
and gold forced Eagle goalkeeper Emmett Rutkowski to make 14 saves.
In his final regular season game as a Sea Gull, senior forward
Kyle
Sterling (Salisbury, Md.) scored the lone goal in the
34th minute of the game for his 15th goal of
the season. He was assisted on the play off of a corner kick by
junior forward Ben DiLisle (Baltimore,
Md.).
The Sea Gull defense remained strong throughout the game. It was
led by junior defender Casey Rector (Ellicott
City, Md.) who stopped Mary Washington time after time
from getting past the defense to challenge the SU goalkeeper,
senior Joshua Scotton (Delmar,
Md.). Scotton was forced to make only two saves on the
day.
The men's soccer team will next be in action in the CAC
tournament, which will start on Oct. 31. With the first-round bye,
the Sea Gulls will not play until their semifinal game, scheduled
for Nov. 3. Salisbury will have home-field advantage throughout the
tournament and will be looking to win its third CAC championship in
a row.
