Box Score York, Pa. - The Salisbury University field
hockey team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe York College,
2-1, on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Salisbury's record to
10-1 (3-0 CAC). So far this season, the maroon and gold have
outscored their opponents an astonishing 56-6.
The final score does not reflect the tempo of the game, as the
Sea Gulls maintained control of the ball for the majority of the 70
minutes. Salisbury outshot York (7-5, 2-2 CAC) 19-1, with 14 of
those shots being on goal. The maroon and gold's defense was rock
solid, as the Sea Gulls did not allow any corner opportunities for
the Spartans. The Sea Gulls had 13 corner opportunities in the
game, and Spartan goalie Claire Rekitzke (7-5) made 12 saves on the
day.
The two Sea Gull scores of the game were from junior back
Katie Fost (Lusby, Md.) and senior forward
Lauren Correll (Bridgeville, Del.). Correll's
goal, scored in the 9th minute of play, came off of an
assist by sophomore forward Caitlin Walker (Fallston,
Md.). Fost's unassisted goal also came in the first half,
during the 18th minute of play, to give the Sea Gulls a
2-1 lead that they would maintain for the eventual win.
The Sea Gulls continue their five-game road streak, as they face
CAC rival Wesley College on Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. Salisbury's lone home
game in October will be on the 20th, as the Gulls face
CAC opponent Stevenson University. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
