Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 19 Salisbury
University women's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory in
overtime against Capital Athletic Conference rival University of
Mary Washington on Saturday. SU senior forward Christina
Eury (Germantown, Md.) headed in the game-winner with less
than two minutes remaining in the first overtime period. Freshman
defender Erin Mooney (Solomons, Md.) was credited
with the assist, her first of the season, as her
perfectly-positioned cross set up the game-winning goal. The win
moves SU's record to 6-1-2 overall, and 3-0 in conference.
The Sea Gulls held a slight advantage in time of possession. The
SU offense accumulated 12 shots on goal to Mary Washington's five.
This was the sixth time this season that SU has had 10 shots or
more on goal in a game.
Salisbury's first goal of the game was scored by senior defender
Hillary Grove (Hagerstown, Md.) in the 40th minute
of the first half. Grove's goal came on a direct kick that she
placed over the Eagle's wall, into the upper right corner from just
beyond the penalty box.
Salisbury's streak of holding its opponent scoreless came to an
end today at 774 minutes when Mary Washington sophomore
forward Bridget Dooley scored in the 37th minute of the first half.
Dooley's shot from just across midfield traveled high and off
the outstretched fingers of SU junior goalkeeper Samantha
Kaufman (Germantown, Md.) into the top of the net. The
match marked Kaufman's first career start in goal, and
she provided Salisbury with four critical saves.
The SU women's soccer team will next host Richard Stockton
College of New Jersey on Wednesday Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
