Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Capital
Athletic Conference opponent Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon
at the SU Soccer Complex. The loss takes the Sea Gulls out of the
running for the CAC Championship.
The Sea Gulls maintained ball control for the majority of the
game, outshooting the Eagles 36-7. The maroon and gold had several
opportunities to capitalize on corner kicks, but were unable to put
the ball past Eagle goalkeeper Tina Brehm. Both teams played
aggressively, but could not score in the 110 minutes of allotted
playing time; they lined up for a best-of-five series of penalty
kicks to determine which team would advance to the CAC
Championship. Two Mary Washington players were able to sneak the
ball past freshman goalkeeper Melissa
Orgera (Arnold, Md.) but Salisbury failed to
capitalize, giving the Eagles the victory.
Salisbury was led by senior forward Christina Eury (Germantown, Md.), who blasted
nine shots on the day, five of which were on goal. Sophomore
forward Sarah
Jessilonis (Pasadena, Md.) posted six shots, two of
which were on goal. The Sea Gulls will now await the announcement
of the NCAA Tournament bracket, scheduled to be released on Monday,
Nov. 9.
