Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 2 Salisbury University
women's lacrosse team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe
Marymount (Va.) University 22-6 on a windy Wednesday evening under
the lights at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (7-0, 4-0 CAC) tacked another victory onto several
already impressive winning streaks. SU has won 32 straight games at
home, 29 consecutive regular-season games and 53 straight CAC
victories.
The Sea Gulls were paced by senior midfielder Ashleigh
Gender as she finished with six points on four goals and
two assists, all scored in the first half. SU had three Gulls
finish with four points on the day starting with reigning CAC
Player of the Week Logan Bilderback (one goal,
three assists), junior attacker Kim Cudmore (one
goal, three assist) and sophomore attacker Trish
DiGirolomo (four assists). Sophomore attacker
Meagan Osipowich recorded a hat trick with three
goals. Beth Rhodey (one assist), Holly
Johnson, and Mackenzie White all scored
two goals apiece. SU received one goal each from Sarah
Clemmens (two assists), Alyssa Fowler
(one assist), Courtney Sorenson, Allie
Wheatley and Carrie Bray.
The maroon and gold jumped out to a quick lead as they scored 16
seconds in on goal by Sorenson from Cudmore. The Gulls followed
that up with a goal by Gender assisted by Bilderback. Marymount
(0-4, 0-3 CAC) received an unassisted goal from Springanne Hatfield
(two goals, one assist) to cut the lead to one, 2-1, at the 28:34
mark. The Gulls would outscore the Saints 13-2 to close out the
half as SU took a 15-3 lead into break.
SU picked up where it left off to begin the second half as the
Sea Gulls scored five straight before Marymount put two in the back
of the net. The Saints goals ended a streak of 14 straight goals by
the Sea Gulls that lasted over 33 minutes. The Saints would
outscore the Gulls 3-2 over the final 16 minutes.
Senior goalie Sonja Stuart (two saves) played
38 minutes in between the pipes to earn the win before she gave way
to Julie Ann Caulfield. The sophomore goalie made
several brilliant saves on close range shots as she finished with
five saves in 22 minutes of action.
The Saints received a valiant effort from goalie Ashley Dodge as
she played all 60 minutes and recorded 22 saves. On the offensive
side, Marymount was led by Hatfield and Tancy Weatherford (two
goals). The Saints Sara Horne and Maria Eden each recorded a score
while Lori Renner finished with an assist.
SU will embark on a three-game road trip which will begin this
weekend in Ashland, Va., as the Sea Gulls face-off with
Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m.
