COCOA, Fla. - The No. 2 Salisbury University
baseball team used six pitchers to combine for a no-hitter in a
24-0 shutout of Hilbert College on Tuesday morning. This is the Sea
Gulls' first of four Spring Break games in Cocoa, Fla.
SU starting pitcher Kyle Starr (1-0) picked up
his first victory as a Sea Gull as the junior pitched four innings.
The Lusby, Md., native finished with two strikeouts and walked two.
Sophomore Mark Peterson came in to relieve Starr
in the fifth and struck out two Hawk (1-3) batters to finish the
inning. The Sea Gulls (15-2) used four different pitchers to close
out the game in freshman Trevor Abbott (one
strikeout), sophomore Drew Baldwin (two
strikeouts), freshman Pat O'Keefe (two strikeouts)
and freshman Daniel Trivits (two strikeouts, one
walk).
Salisbury had a successful day at the plate as the Gulls pushed
24 runs across. Sophomore Andrew Miller
highlighted the performance as he had three doubles and four RBIs.
SU had four other players hit safely three times in the game
including juniors Fred Kreiger and first baseman
Mike Celenza (two RBIs) along with sophomores
Brad Baylis (one double, one RBI) and
Brian Green (one RBI). Senior Cody
Collins registered a pair of hits and drove in four runs.
Senior second baseman Randy Boyle was the other
Gull with multiple hits as he had two hits and two RBIs.
The Gulls will return to action on Wednesday, March 18, when
they face Medaille College at 9 a.m.
