CLAREMONT, Calif. - The
Salisbury University women's tennis team overcame an early deficit
to post a 6-3 victory over Colorado College on Wednesday at the
Hotel Claremont Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. The match marked
Salisbury's third day of competition on its annual Spring Break
trip.
Salisbury (6-1), ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region,
posted its sixth win of the season but had to rebound from a 2-1
Tiger advantage after doubles. SU began the contest with a victory
at No. 1 doubles when junior Jackie Burr and
senior Anna Marie Kable edged out Jordan Evans and
Britt Swenson, 8-6. The Tigers used consecutive victories to swing
the advantage in their favor as the teams went into singles play.
Sally Bryant and Erin Yamamoto defeated sophomore Angela
Tenaglia and senior Robyn Wendell 8-5 at
No. 3 doubles while Kelsey Smith and Deanna Thirkell won 9-7 over
the junior duo of Kelly Fahrner and Rachel
Iosue at second doubles.
Colorado College (3-2) began singles where it left off in
doubles as the Tigers posted a victory in the first match as
Swenson knocked off Kable in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4
singles. Salisbury didn't let up as the Sea Gulls reeled off five
straight victories to win the match. Iosue began the rally as she
won 6-2, 6-0 over Smith at No. 2 singles. Wendell followed with a
6-4, 6-1 victory over Bryant at No. 5 singles and Fahrner
registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Thirkell at No. 4 singles. The
final two Sea Gull victories came from junior Kristen
King who won 6-0, 6-2 over Vita Emery at No. 6 singles and
Burr who won 1-6, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles.
Salisbury heads into its final day of action on its Spring Break
trip with a match against Cal Lutheran University on Thursday,
March 19, at 2 p.m.
