MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The American Baseball
Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III poll was
released this week and the Salisbury University baseball team fell
eight spots to No. 19. This is the first regular-season poll this
year released by the ABCA, who had Salisbury at No. 11 in its
preseason poll released in January.
Salisbury (17-4, 5-3 Capital Athletic Conference) collected 98
points in the poll and are one of two Capital Athletic Conference
teams to hold positions in the poll. York (Pa.) College, who was
not ranked to begin the season, is ranked No. 12. The Spartans
defeated the Sea Gulls 7-4 on the road March 11.
The top spot is held by Eastern Connecticut State University
(232 points), who moved up nine spots from No. 10 as the Warriors
received four first-place votes. Millsaps (Miss.) College (230
points) made the biggest move in the poll as the Majors went from
being unranked in the preseason poll to No. 2. The Majors collected
three first-place votes in poll. The University of Texas-Tyler (217
points) jumped 10 spots to No. 3 while Wooster (Ohio) College
climbed four spots to No. 4. Wooster was the only other team to
receive a first-place vote in the poll. Kean (N. J.) University
(209 points) rounds out the top five as they fell one spot.
Salisbury is scheduled to play four more games against two teams
that are ranked in this week's poll. SU will host No. 12 York in a
doubleheader on Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m. The maroon and gold are
also slated to play single games against No. 10 Christopher Newport
University on Friday, April 24, on the road before returning home
on Saturday, April 25, to host the Captains.
