Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
lacrosse team picked up its 105th consecutive victory in Capital
Athletic Conference play Tuesday night under the lights at Sea Gull
Stadium. Fourth-ranked Salisbury defeated University of Mary
Washington 14-5 before a crowd of 509.
Salisbury (11-1, 5-0 CAC) has not lost a conference game,
including CAC tournament games, since it joined the conference in
1995. The Sea Gulls have won 14 consecutive conference
championships.
The Sea Gulls outscored the Eagles 6-0 in the third quarter and
netted nine straight goals in a span that lasted from the end of
the second quarter until the final seconds of the fourth quarter.
Salisbury's defense kept Mary Washington (7-5, 1-4 CAC) scoreless
for over 34 minutes before Eagle midfielder Brian Fisk (two goals)
scored back-to-back goals in the final 41 seconds of play.
Six different Sea Gulls scored two or more goals in the
nine-goal victory. Freshman attackman Matt Cannone
(three goals, three assists) led the way for the Sea Gulls as he
scored two of SU's first three goals to set the tone for the
evening. All-American midfielder Kylor Berkman
added two goals and two assists as the reigning Division III Player
and Midfielder of the Year has scored at least one point in the
past 61 games. Senior attackman Stephen Krasco,
junior attackman Mike Winter, junior attackman
Jake DeLillo and sophomore midfielder
Shawn Zordani (one assist) all scored two goals
each. Senior midfielder Patrick Bonanno had a
game-high three assists and junior attackman Mike Von
Kamecke scored Salisbury's other goal.
Salisbury led 3-0 before the Eagles scored twice including a
man-up goal by Charlie White off an assist from Dan Coats (one
goal). SU regained the lead behind goals from Krasco and Zordani
and later took a 5-3 lead into the half.
SU outshot UMW 45-25, scooped up 47 ground balls, caused 16 of
Mary Washington's 26 turnovers and converted 17-of-23 clear
attempts. Salisbury's man-up unit scored twice on four chances.
Junior face-off specialist Ryan Finch won 16-of-19
face-offs as Salisbury as a team went 17-for-23 on face-offs.
The Sea Gulls will next face top-ranked Stevenson University
(9-0, 3-0 CAC) on Saturday, April 4, at 7 p.m. in a conference
showdown with first-place in the CAC on the line.
