Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 1 Salisbury University
women's lacrosse team advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference
championship with a 19-8 victory over visiting Stevenson University
on Tuesday night. The two teams were forced to seek shelter within
the confines of Sea Gull Stadium for over an hour during a severe
thunderstorm in the area with 24 minutes left in the second half as
SU led 15-6.
The top-seed and six-time defending CAC champion Sea Gulls
(16-1) will take on third-seed University of Mary Washington (13-6)
on Friday, April 24, at Sea Gull Stadium at a time to be
determined. The Eagles defeated second-seed St. Mary's (Md.)
College, 23-17, in Southern Maryland in the other semifinal game.
The Gulls defeated the Eagles less than one week ago with a 15-4
victory at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury has won 57 consecutive conference games, including CAC
tournament games, since 2003.
SU was led by senior All-American midfielder Robyn
Bishop who scored six goals and dished out one assist.
Those totals tie her career-high for goals scored and points in a
game dating back to April 17, 2008 in a 17-12 win over Mary
Washington. Senior midfielder Courtney Sorenson
scored four goals which tied her season-high mark. Sophomore
attackers Logan Bilderback (two goals, three
assists), Meaghan Osipowich (two goals, one
assist) and Trish DiGirolomo (one goal, two
assist) all had strong performances for the Gulls. Seniors
Ashleigh Gender and Holly
Johnson, plus sophomore Aileen McCausland
and freshman Allie Wheatley each chipped in a
goal. Senior attacker Beth Rhodey and freshman
Georgi Porter each dished out one assist.
Senior goalie Sonja Stuart collects the win as
the Rockville, Md., native played 54 minutes where she stopped
eight shots and scooped up five ground balls. Sophomore
Julie Ann Caulfield played the final six minutes
where she recorded one save. Junior defender Maddie
Goetz caused three turnovers and scooped up a team-high
six ground balls.
Freshman goalie Jenny Schroeder suffered the loss for the
Mustangs (10-7) as she tallied one save in 31 minutes of work.
Sophomore Devan Malone recorded two saves for Stevenson in 29
minutes of action. The Mustangs received a valiant effort from
Spencer Kraus (three goals), Lisa Baker (two goals) and Megan Weiss
(one goal, one assist).
