Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team fell behind on a number of occasions Wednesday
night at Maggs Physical Activities Center against Capital Athletic
Conference foe University of Mary Washington, but kept battling
back, eventually collecting a five-game victory.
The Sea Gulls (13-1, 2-0 CAC) lost the first game, and fell
behind 2-1 after three games, but were able to draw even both
times. Even a 10-4 deficit in the fifth game proved not to be
insurmountable as the Gulls clawed back to tie the game at 14-14
and eventually take the win, 16-14, claiming the match's final five
points.
Salisbury has now played two five-game matches this season,
winning last weekend against No. 22 Haverford as part of the SU
Invitational and collecting the 19-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16, 16-14
victory on Wednesday against the Eagles.
The Sea Gulls were led against Mary Washington (8-4, 1-1 CAC) by
senior libero Gabby Long (Bel Air, Md.), who
posted 26 digs in the match. Freshman middle hitter Chelsea
Glowacki (Poolesville, Md.) came up big with nine kills,
two of which occurred in the middle of the fifth set to give
Salisbury the lead.
By squeaking out the win, Salisbury improves its winning streak
against CAC opponents to 17 straight matches. The last loss against
a CAC opponent came in a 3-2 shortcoming at the hands of Gallaudet
University on Oct. 18, 2007.
Salisbury will be back in action on Friday and Saturday when it
hosts the Sea Gull Classic, welcoming Goucher College, Virginia
Wesleyan College and Johns Hopkins University to Maggs Physical
Activities Center.
