Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 19 Salisbury
University women's soccer team claimed a decisive 1-0 victory over
Christopher Newport University on Wednesday at the SU Soccer
Complex. The non-conference win lifted the Sea Gulls' record to
5-1-2 overall. The narrow margin of victory is not indicative of
the flow of the match, as Salisbury held a decisive advantage in
the number of shots taken, 25-7.
The Sea Gulls' only goal was scored by sophomore Sam
Ondrejcak (Waldorf, Md.) 12 minutes into the first half.
Salisbury's relentless attack was led by sophomore Sarah
Jessilonis (Pasadena, Md.) who had four shots. Sophomores
Mara Hauf (Baltimore, Md.) and Danielle
Crowley (Flanders, N.J.) contributed with three shots a
piece.
Salisbury's freshman goalkeeper Melissa Orgera (Arnold,
Md.) had five saves on the day, and improved her goals
against average to 0.12. Orgera was involved in a collision with an
opposing player midway through the second half. The resulting
injury resulted in a clock stoppage of over three minutes; however,
the SU goalkeeper was able to remain in the game and finish off
another shutout. The Salisbury defense has not allowed a goal in
the last 737 minutes of play.
Christopher Newport goalkeeper Dineen Sampson had 12 saves in
the match. Captains forward Emily Chesbro accounted for three of
the CNU's seven shots.
The Sea Gulls will next host the University of Mary Washington
on Saturday Oct. 3, at 1 p.m.
