SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury
University men's soccer team picked up its second win of the season
with a 4-0 victory over Capital University on the first day of the
Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, Salisbury (2-0) scored its first
goal of the day with 38 minutes left in the second half. The goal
was scored by senior forward Nick Malone (Salisbury,
Md.), his third of the season, with an assist by junior
forward Chris Finney (Columbia, Md.).
Sea Gull senior midfielder Kyle Sterling (Salisbury,
Md.) scored the team's second goal with 24 minutes left in
the game. It was his second goal of the season. He was assisted by
senior midfielder Alex Hargrove (Clarks Summit,
Pa.).
A penalty kick opportunity allowed Hargrove to score his first
goal of the year with 17 minutes to play in the match. Finney
capped the Sea Gull scoring just two minutes later on a penalty
kick, also his first tally of the year, off an assist by sophomore
midfielder Morgan Hunt (Millsboro, Del.).
Salisbury's offensive attack dominated Capital's defense with 20
shots in the game, while Capital manages just three shots.
Senior goalkeeper Greg Wellinghoff
(Salisbury, Md.) led Salisbury's
defense as he played all 90 minutes and made one save as he
preserved the shutout for the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury will next be in action Sunday, Sept. 6, against
Richard Stockton at 3 pm on the second day of the Elmer Lord
Memorial Tournament.
