Sea Gulls soar past Eagles for third CAC victory

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team improved its record to 3-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the University of Mary Washington. The Sea Gulls have won their last two CAC matches.

Salisbury (4-7, 3-1 CAC) had a steady attack during the game, totaling 16 shots against the Eagle defense. The Gulls outshot Mary Washington (5-3-1, 1-2) 16-8 in the game.

Junior midfielder Katie McMahon scored the Sea Gull goal in the 34th minute of the first half to give Salisbury the lead, 1-0. She took the ball from just outside the 18-yard box and ripped a shot past the keeper into the back of the net.

The lead would stand as the Sea Gull defense stiffened and allowed only three Mary Washington shots for the rest of the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Orgera played the entire game for Salisbury and saved all three shots on goal that she was challenged with.

The Sea Gulls will next be in action as they travel to play the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey on Wednesday. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
