Salisbury holds first-ever 'Digs for Dogs', registers 3-0 win against Stevenson

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team notched its 13th straight-set victory of the season on Thursday evening, defeating Capital Athletic Conference foe Stevenson University with scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-21. The evening also marked Salisbury's first-ever "Digs for Dogs" event, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Humane Society of Wicomico County and The Dog House.

Salisbury (17-10, 4-2 CAC) came out of the gates strong, notching a 25-19 win in the first set. The second set wasn't as easy, though, as a strong Stevenson (20-6, 3-4 CAC) squad rallied back to take a 23-21 lead over Salisbury. The Sea Gulls called a timeout, regrouped, and scored the next two points to tie up the game at 23 apiece. After the Mustangs scored the next point to go up 24-23, Salisbury responded in a big way. Salisbury scored the next two, and a resounding service ace by sophomore setter Carley Todd put an exclamation point on the set win and put the Gulls up 2-0.

The start of the third set was a little too close for comfort for Salisbury as the teams were at one point tied at 11-11, but a 5-1 Sea Gull run would stretch Salisbury's lead to 16-12. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Vieira posted one of her team-high five blocks on the last play of that third set, sealing the "W" for the maroon and gold.

Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Glowacki led the Sea Gull charge, posting 13 kills. Junior setter Lindsey Saltzman registered 21 assists. To go with her five blocks, Vieira also had a team-high 18 digs in the victory.

The Sea Gulls will be on the road for their next match, against CAC opponent Hood College, on Oct. 22. Salisbury returns home to Maggs Physical Activities Center on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to square off against conference foe York (Pa.) College. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m.
