Season ends with 2-0 loss at Stevenson in CAC semifinals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team saw its season come to a close Tuesday afternoon, falling in the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament at Stevenson University, 2-0.

The Sea Gulls, the fifth seed in the tournament, outshot Stevenson (11-6-1) in the match, 11-10, and put one additional shot on goal, but were unable to convert on their scoring chances. Salisbury (8-12) got the bulk of its chances in the opening 45 minutes of play, forcing Stevenson starting keeper Brittany Ross to make five saves in the first half.

The top-seeded Mustangs were able to find the back of the net for the first time in the 63rd minute as Julie Dempsey sent a corner kick into the six-yard box where Allison Humphries headed the ball home for a 1-0 lead. Stevenson's Stephanie Eyler added the insurance tally in the 85th minute.

Salisbury sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Orgera made three saves in the contest. This season Orgera registered 62 saves, bringing her two-year total to 116, good for fifth in the program record book.

Junior Sarah Jessilonis led the Sea Gulls on Tuesday with three shots attempted. With her game-winning goal in the CAC first round win at York, Jessilonis will enter her senior season with 18 career goals, tied for 10th in program history.
