Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team certainly gave fans a thrill on Tuesday evening in a Capital Athletic Conference first-round match against Stevenson University, rallying back from a first-set loss to capture a five-set win and a trip to the semifinal round of the CAC tournament.
The third-seeded Sea Gulls (23-11) fell behind early, suffering a 25-11 loss to the sixth-seeded Mustangs (25-8) in the first game. The maroon and gold rebounded with 25-17 victories in the second and third sets, but Stevenson's 25-19 win in the fourth game took the match to the pivotal fifth set.
A five-point run from Salisbury in that fifth set would give the team an 8-4 cushion, but the exclamation point came later on in the match as the Sea Gulls earned four consecutive points to put the contest out of reach and secure their spot in the next round of tournament play.
Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Jehle came up big for Salisbury in the match, posting eight kills and 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Jacki Kaluzny was also a big contributor to the Sea Gull cause, notching 17 digs and two service-aces. Both were team-highs. Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Glowacki pitched in with a team-high 13 kills.
Salisbury will now travel to No. 2 seed University of Mary Washington for its semifinal match on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The CAC championship game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 6 between the winner of that match and the other semifinal contest, between No. 4 seed York (Pa.) College and No. 1 seed Frostburg State University.
