Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team suffered a 69-61 setback in the championship game of the 2010 PNC/Ramada Inn Classic by host King's (Pa.) College on Saturday.
The Sea Gulls (5-5) broke out to a 6-2 lead as junior guard Devin Posey and junior forward Mike Maczko knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the game's first three minutes. Salisbury's offense came to a halt for six minutes, before junior forward Jason Nwosu made a jumper at the 11:28 mark to give life to the Sea Gulls. Over the final 11 minutes of action, the two teams continuously traded baskets, with King's (5-4) holding a 27-25 lead at the halftime break.
The two teams played at an equal pace throughout the early portion of the second half, as neither team was able to break away from the other. SU got its largest lead of the second half with 10:17 remaining, as junior guard Mike Atkins converted a pair of free throws to give SU a 44-36 lead. The Monarchs would battle back and eventually knot the score at 53-53 with 4:26 remaining in the period. Over the final portion of the contest, King's outscored Salisbury 16-8 to bring the score to its final at 69-61.
Maczko led the way for the maroon and gold as he tallied a team-high 13 points, pulled down nine rebounds and handed out three assists. Posey matched his career-high point total in the contest, as he scored 10 points in 32 minutes of action. Senior center Chris McGrew's 17-game streak of scoring in double-digits was snapped in the contest, as McGrew tallied just six points in the game.
King's received a game-high 15 points from Kyle Stackhouse (nine rebounds) while Kevin Conroy and Kyle Hammonds each tallied 12 points.
The Sea Gulls will close out the 2010 portion of their schedule on the road for a non-conference contest at Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.
