HAMPTON, Va. - One of the keys to the 2010
season for the Salisbury University baseball team will be the depth
of its pitching staff. If Tuesday's game at The Apprentice School
is any indication, the Sea Gulls will be just fine.
Five Salisbury pitchers combined to allow the Builders just four
hits in a 3-1 Sea Gull victory, the team's fifth straight. Senior
starting pitcher Kyle Starr (Lusby,
Md.) collected his first win of the year, allowing one
run on four hits over five innings, he also struck out three.
Drew
Baldwin (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Kevin Story (Damascus,
Md.), Mark Peterson
(Reisterstown, Md.) and Chad Wolfe (Thurmont,
Md.) each worked a perfect inning to finish off the
game, with Wolfe picking up his first save of the year.
Apprentice (5-4) got its run in the bottom of the first inning,
coming up with two of its four hits.
The Sea Gulls (5-1) took advantage of a number of Builder
miscues to put up single runs in fourth, fifth and seventh innings
to come away with the win.
Salisbury junior Brian Green (Salisbury,
Md.) scored two of his team's runs including the game
winner on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior Will Evans (Salisbury,
Md.). Green was one of three Sea Gulls to come up with
extra-base hits on the day. Green, Ryan Smith (Waldorf,
Md.) and Tim Kellinger
(Knoxville, Md.) each had doubles in the game.
The Sea Gulls will have Wednesday off before traveling to
Christopher Newport University on Thursday afternoon.
