Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The
No. 3-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team hosted
its third-straight home game on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull
Stadium and the results were even better than
the previous games as the Sea Gulls came away with another
victory and preserved their perfect record. Before a crowd of 485
spectators, Salisbury took down Eastern Connecticut State
University by a score of 20-6. The 14-goal margin of victory
is the Sea Gulls' largest of the season so far.
It was
clear from the first face-off that the maroon and gold came to
play; they ripped 26 shots in the first half, racking up 12 goals
in 30 minutes. Eastern Connecticut's first and only goal of
the half came in the second quarter with just 2:19 left to play,
but the Warriors (3-2) had several opportunities to score. They
took eight shots in the first half, but junior goalkeeper
Johnny Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) made
six clutch saves to maintain the Sea Gulls' lead. Sophomore
attackman Matt Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.) led the
way for the Gulls (8-0) as he netted three of his team-high four
goals in the first half.
The other
Sea Gull to score four goals was senior midfielder Mike Von
Kamecke (Winter Park, Fla.), who also dished out a
team-high four assists to give him a career-high eight points on
the day. Junior midfielder Shawn
Zordani (Littleton, Colo.) was an integral part of
Salisbury's aggressive offense as he scored three goals on
three shots; two of those goals came off of extra man opportunities
for the Gulls. Defenders Spencer
Smith (McMurray, Pa.), a junior, and Will
Poletis (Baltimore, Md.), a senior, each notched their
first goals of the season in the lopsided victory against the
Warriors. The game marks the first time this season the Sea Gulls
have passed the 20-goal threshold.
The Sea
Gulls will open up conference play on Wednesday, March 24 as they
take on Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College at Sea
Gull Stadium. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
