Box Score SALISBURY,
Md. – The No. 3-ranked Salisbury University
men's lacrosse team opened up conference play in a big way on
Wednesday evening as the Sea Gulls dominated Capital Athletic
Conference opponent Wesley College, 24-5. The win marks
Salisbury's ninth-straight this season as the Sea Gulls
remain undefeated.
The Sea
Gulls wasted no time getting on the board as senior midfielder
Mike Von Kamecke (Winter Park, Fla.) scored
just 36 seconds into the contest. He would score twice more in the
first half to bring his total to three at the break, but he
wasn't the only Sea Gull to do so; senior attackman
Mike Winter (Port Washington, N.Y.) and
sophomore attackman Matt
Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.) also netted three goals apiece
in the first half. Junior Collin
Tokosch (Arnold, Md.) had a big night as well as the
long-stick defender scored his first career goal in the second
quarter on a fast break. At the break, Salisbury (9-0, 1-0 CAC) had
a 17-1 lead over Wesley (1-6, 0-1 CAC). As a team, the Sea Gulls
outshot the Wolverines 31-7 and were 9-for-10 on clear attempts
throughout the first two quarters of the contest.
The
16-goal advantage would only increase for the maroon and gold as
Winter added to his scoring totals, netting Salisbury's
18th and 19th goals of the game to open up
the third quarter. He finished the night with a team-high five
goals. Cannone dished out a team-high four assists to go with his
three goals. Salisbury's 24 goals scored marks a new
season-high for the team, whose previous best was just three days
ago as the Sea Gulls defeated Eastern Connecticut State University
by a score of 20-6.
The Sea
Gulls saw all four of their goalkeepers play between the pipes in
the victory against the Wolverines: junior Johnny
Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) who got the win for
Salisbury, making one save, as well as juniors Tim
Swinburn (Swarthmore, Pa.), Billy McNamara (Ellicott City, Md.) and
freshman Mitch Meredith (Annapolis, Md.) who netted
one, one and three saves, respectively.
Salisbury
will be on the road for its next three games, beginning with a
showdown against No. 1-ranked Gettysburg College on March 27 at 1
p.m. The game will result in the first loss of the season for one
of the teams, as the Bullets and Sea Gulls both boast a perfect 9-0
record.
