SALISBURY, Md. – The
No. 7 Salisbury University baseball team split its Capital Athletic
Conference doubleheader against Stevenson University on Saturday
afternoon at the SU Baseball Field. After falling in the opener,
6-4, the Sea Gulls bounced back to claim a 7-2
victory.
After
missing out on chances in the first two innings of the second game
and stranding five runners on base, the Sea Gulls got on the board
in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Bill Morton
(Newark, Del.) opened things up with a two-out single
to center field before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Morton
came home on a single up the middle by senior Chad
Wolfe (Thurmont, Md.) for a 1-0
lead.
Salisbury
(15-3, 9-1 CAC) would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning and four in the sixth to put the game away. Morton and Wolfe
each finished the game with two RBI.
Junior
Kyle Judson (Gaithersburg, Md.) earned the
win, limiting the Mustangs to just two runs, neither of which were
earned, on three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. He walked two and
struck out seven.
In the
first game, the Sea Gulls managed just five hits, with two coming
off the bat of junior Brad Baylis
(Pocomoke, Md.), who went 2-for-3 in the game and
scored two of the Sea Gull runs.
Junior
Nate Young (Washington Township, N.J.)
took the loss. He worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (only two
of which were earned), while striking out five Stevenson (13-6, 7-6
CAC) batters.
The Sea
Gulls will be back in action on Sunday, when they host Ithaca
College for one game, beginning at noon.
