Box Score SALISBURY,
Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse
team wrapped up its home portion of regular-season conference play
with a win on a soggy Tuesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium, taking
down Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College 19-4 before
a crowd of 167 fans.
The Spartans (7-7, 4-2
CAC) netted the game's first goal just 28 seconds into the game,
but York would score no more in the first half. Salisbury (15-0,
6-0 CAC) netted five goals in the first quarter and tacked on
another seven in the second quarter to take a 12-1 advantage going
into the second half of play. Senior midfielder Mike Von
Kamecke (Winter Park, Fla.) led scoring for Gulls in
the first 30 minutes, netting a hat trick and dishing out one
assist.
Salisbury never looked
back as its offense continued to churn out goals. That, in
combination with a bulletproof Sea Gull defense, led to the
second-lowest scoring total for an opposing team this season;
just three days ago, Salisbury held CAC opponent Hood College to
just two goals. To credit the Salisbury defense even further, York
was 0-for-6 in man-up goal opportunities on the night. Von Kamecke
added one more goal to his first-half total off of an extra-man
opportunity in the fourth quarter to give him a game-high four
goals for the game. Senior attackman Mike
Winter (Port Washington, N.Y.) wasn't far behind in
scoring for the maroon and gold, netting three goals on three
well-placed shots.
Between the pipes, junior
goalkeeper Johnny
Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) earned the win as he made
eight crucial saves, playing a total of 39 minutes. In addition to
Rodriguez, juniors Tim
Swinburn (Swarthmore, Pa.) and Billy McNamara (Ellicott City, Md.), along
with freshman Mitch Meredith (Annapolis, Md.), saw time in
the cage.
The maroon and gold will
travel to Wakefield High School on Thursday, April 15 to square off
against Marymount (Va.) University at 8:15 p.m. The contest will
mark the last regular-season CAC game for Salisbury; with tonight's
win, the Sea Gulls lock up a first-round bye in the CAC tournament,
which begins on April 18.
