SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 6 Salisbury
University baseball team defeated Catholic University of America on
Monday 9-3. The Sea Gulls took advantage of five Cardinal errors in
the game as it only took seven hits to bring home the runs.
Salisbury (19-4) jumped out to a big lead early as it scored
seven of its nine runs in the first four innings. A wild pitch and
three Catholic (12-5) errors allowed four of Salisbury's
first five runs in the first two innings.
Senior Mike Celenza (Gaithersburg, Md.) drove
in the game's first run when junior Andrew
Miller (Schwenksville, Pa.) scored on a Celenza
groundout. Miller walked to start the inning and reached third on a
double by junior Brad Baylis
(Pocomoke, Md.). Baylis had two doubles on the day and
was joined by junior Devon
Quaglietta (Monroe Township, N.J.) (two hits) as the
only two Sea Gulls with multiple hits.
Celenza led the team with three RBI. He finished the day with
one run and one hit, as well. Quaglietta, Baylis and senior
Ryan Smith (Waldorf, Md.) combined to
drive in the rest of the Sea Gull runs. Quaglietta had
two RBI while Baylis and Smith both had one.
Miller and Baylis led the team as they each scored three runs.
Freshman Andrew
Levy (Hampstead, Md.) earned the start and picked up
his third win of the season. He pitched six innings giving up three
runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out seven batters.
