CARLISLE, Pa. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team suffered its first losses of the season on Friday
evening as the Sea Gulls competed in the Dickinson Invitational,
hosted by Dickinson College. Salisbury fell to St. Vincent College
in five closely contested games; in the second match of the day,
the Gulls put up another valiant fight but eventually fell to
Elizabethtown College, 3-1.
The match against St. Vincent was intense, as the Bearcats and
Sea Gulls exchanged game victories in an effort to earn the "W".
Eventually, the teams were knotted up at two games apiece;
Salisbury battled but fell in the final game, 15-13, to end the
team's four-match win streak. The final scores of the match were
17-25, 25-18, 15-25, 25-19, 13-15 in favor of St. Vincent.
It was a similar story for the maroon and gold in the second
match of the evening, against Elizabethtown College. The Sea Gulls
fell behind early as the Blue Jays took a 25-23 first game win.
Undeterred, Salisbury captured a 25-19 victory in the second game
to tie up the match but fell in the third game, 25-22. The maroon
and gold continued to compete but the Blue Jays captured the match
victory with a narrow 27-25 win in the fourth and final game.
Salisbury (4-2) will regroup and take the court again on
Saturday, Sept. 11, facing Allegheny College at noon before
wrapping up play at the Dickinson Invitational with a contest
against Lebanon Valley College at 4 p.m.
