Sea Gulls suffer 2-1 setback at Shellenberger Soccer Classic

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback at the hands of Lynchburg College at the 2010 Shellenberger Soccer Classic on Saturday.

Salisbury (2-3) got on the board first in the contest, as sophomore defender Erin Mooney struck a ball off a Lynchburg (2-1) defender and into the net in the game's 12th minute. The Hornets responded just six minutes later with a goal scored by Shelley Hoath off an assist from Betsy Kwiatowski. Lynchburg would tally the game-winning goal in the 34th minute, as Jessica Gonzalez converted a 35-yard free-kick.

For the match, the Hornets outshot the Sea Gulls 18-8 and held an 8-3 corner kick advantage. SU sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Orgera finished with five saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Sea Gulls will have to regroup quickly, as they are set to square off with Roanoke College on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the final game of the Shellenberger Classic.
