Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – The No. 11 Salisbury
University men's soccer team opened up play in the Capital Athletic
Conference on Wednesday afternoon, collecting a 1-0 victory at Hood
College.
The Sea Gulls (6-0-1, 1-0 CAC) dominated the statistics
including a 32-2 edge on shots and 16-0 advantage on corner kicks.
But the game would go to halftime in a scoreless tie. It wasn't
until the 73rd minute that Salisbury sophomore Phil
Bucheimer broke the deadlock.
Bucheimer put home his fourth tally of the season as he finished
a feed from junior Ian Wilson
with a single touch to the near post. The assist is the second
Wilson's career and first since August 2008.
The Blazers (2-3, 0-1 CAC) got their final shot off with just 10
seconds showing on the clock, but the effort was blocked as the Sea
Gull defense stood strong, recording its fifth shutout in seven
games this season. Sophomore keeper John Vnenchak was not forced to make a single save in the
contest.
Salisbury turned up the pressure on the Hood goal in the second
half, taking 18 shots (five on target) in the final 45 minutes and
getting 11 of the 16 corner kick chances in the second half.
The Sea Gulls will play their next CAC match next Wednesday when
they host Marymount (Va.) University. Salisbury will enter that
game with a 14-game unbeaten streak (12-0-2) in CAC play dating
back to the 2008 season.
Salisbury will be back in action on Saturday at the SU Soccer
Complex when the Sea Gulls host Lynchburg College. The game is
scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
