YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team suffered its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon, falling at York (Pa.) College, 4-2.

The Spartans got on the scoreboard first, with two goals in the opening 27 minutes. Steph Mergler gave York a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a long unassisted shot, before the lead doubled on Caitlin Aversa's breakaway goals eight minutes later.

Salisbury (2-6, 1-1 CAC) was able to cut into the lead in the 33rd minute when junior Sarah Jessilonis put home her third goal of the season, off an assist from freshman Colleen O'Connell, cutting the Spartan lead to 2-1.

York (1-4-1, 1-1 CAC) got a pair of second half goals by Ali Jones, stretching its advantage to 4-1 before the Sea Gulls were able to tally the match's final score in the 65th minute. Sophomore Julia Finecey finished off an assist by Bonnie Sandone to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Sea Gulls would get no closer.

Salisbury fired 10 shots in the game, with eight of them being on target, but York keeper Sarah Spanarkel was able to turn away six Sea Gull shots to earn the victory.
