Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The No. 2-ranked
Salisbury University field hockey team hit the road on Sunday
afternoon to face off against Capital Athletic Conference opponent
St. Mary's (Md.) College, coming away with a 1-0 victory. The game
marks the Sea Gulls' sixth shutout victory of the season.
Salisbury (7-1, 3-0 CAC) dominated offensively in the
low-scoring game. The Sea Gull offense fired off 16 shots while an
incredible defense did not allow the Seahawks (7-2, 2-1 CAC) to get
off a single shot in the first half. Freshman Rebecca Hasz
scored the only goal of the game, 23 minutes into the contest, to
notch her first collegiate score. Junior forward Caitlin
Walker provided the assist on Hasz's game-winning
goal.
The Sea Gulls held a statistical advantage in all categories,
outshooting the Seahawks 26-4 and earning 25 penalty corner
opportunities. St. Mary's had four penalty corner chances in the
contest. Junior keeper Anna Cooke
earned the win for Salisbury, playing all 70 minutes and being
forced to make just one save.
Salisbury will return home to Sea Gull Stadium for its next
contest, against CAC foe Wesley College, on Sept. 30. Game time is
set for 6 p.m.
