Hasz nets first career goal as No. 2 Salisbury shuts out St. Mary's

Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The No. 2-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team hit the road on Sunday afternoon to face off against Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's (Md.) College, coming away with a 1-0 victory. The game marks the Sea Gulls' sixth shutout victory of the season.

Salisbury (7-1, 3-0 CAC) dominated offensively in the low-scoring game. The Sea Gull offense fired off 16 shots while an incredible defense did not allow the Seahawks (7-2, 2-1 CAC) to get off a single shot in the first half. Freshman Rebecca Hasz scored the only goal of the game, 23 minutes into the contest, to notch her first collegiate score. Junior forward Caitlin Walker provided the assist on Hasz's game-winning goal.

The Sea Gulls held a statistical advantage in all categories, outshooting the Seahawks 26-4 and earning 25 penalty corner opportunities. St. Mary's had four penalty corner chances in the contest. Junior keeper Anna Cooke earned the win for Salisbury, playing all 70 minutes and being forced to make just one save.

Salisbury will return home to Sea Gull Stadium for its next contest, against CAC foe Wesley College, on Sept. 30. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
