Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University
women's soccer team suffered its second setback of the season on
Sunday afternoon, falling to Johns Hopkins University, 3-0, in the
final contest of the SU Tournament.
The Blue Jays (2-0) took control early in the game, netting
their first goal less than five minutes in, but Salisbury's defense
held ample scoring opportunities at bay. With just two seconds left
to play in the first half, Johns Hopkins would strike again. Blue
Jay forward Kelly Baker entered the 18-yard box and fired a shot
which was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Melissa
Orgera, but Orgera was unable to clear the ball and
Hopkins defender Sasha Reyes-Guerra tapped in the team's second
goal of the day.
Johns Hopkins capped off the final score of the day with a goal
in the 64th minute of play. Orgera played the entire 90 minutes of
the game in the goal, saving nine of the 12 shots on goal kicked at
her by the Blue Jays. Although Johns Hopkins outshot Salisbury 30-5
and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, the Sea Gull defense
tightened up immensely toward the end of the second half and
eliminated any further Blue Jay scoring opportunities.
Salisbury (1-2) will look to get back to its winning ways as it
travels to play Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
It will mark the start of a string of seven road games for the
maroon and gold.
